Once again we are waking up too sunny skies. Makes my day seeing the sun first thing. It is still quite cool though, with temperatures sitting at -5.1 C | 22.82 F Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout this morning, which will make travelling nice. My lovely wife and I did take a trip to North Bay yesterday to have lunch with our son and to pick up a few items, along with some groceries. The roads were a mess which dirtied up my nice shinny car. That will have to be addressed in the coming days. We met our son at Casey’s Grill & Bar and had a great meal. It’s located at20 Maplewood Avenue, North Bay, Ontario. We all had a Club Trio Half a classic club sandwich paired with roasted red pepper soup and a side Caesar salad. It was a delicious meal which cost $14.00 each. My son bought as it was my birthday which was a special treat. The meal was great but the visit with our son made our day. Living so far away it is hard to see our two boys, and when we get the chance to see them we take it. So with that I am off to put some more wood in the furnace and then will see what the day has in store. Have a great day!. GW
This morning we had sunshine greeting us through the windows. Nice to see. Yesterday we had about an inch of snow but it melted as things turned to rain later on in the day. We should see sunshine off and on for most of the day and warming up a wee bit tomorrow. Temperatures were sitting at 0.3 C | 32.54 F Highway 522 is bare but wet. Travelling should be a go for today if you had a notion to head off to town. With that I am off to light the wood furnace and then have some breakfast. Have a great day. GW
Gives me the feeling that fishing isn’t too far off.
Canada is warming on average at a rate twice as fast as the rest of the world, a new scientific report indicates.
The thing is it has only increased this amount in Canada. And another thing is, it has only increased 1.7C (3F) since 1948. It has taken 70 years to reach this amount. I will say that again … 70 years. To me it is no reason to get upset about. It also is no reason to force this carbon tax on folks. They say they are going to give it back. If this is the case why take it in the first place. Also, what they are giving you back, is just a piece of what we should be getting back, as this tax will raise prices from gas to food to all kinds of things. But the main concern is this. If you tax people to an extent that it hurts, people will start hoarding. When that happens no one wins. There is a lot better ways to save the environment than forcing tax upon companies and the working people. My opinion only.
Snowy morning with some wind. Winds are coming in from the SW though, which should bring in some warmer weather. Eventually this snow should leave us. Right? Temperatures are a touch warmer than yesterday sitting at -0.3 C | 31.46 F Highway 522 is partially snow covered, so I would think if you don’t have to drive don’t. Why subject yourself to the elements if you don’t have to. Better days are not far off. Today I will be working in the woodworking shop. I just about got our new Head Board done up. Turned out great and will look even better with a couple coats of white paint. Then once dry will bring it into its new home. One reason why I made it was, at nights when I lean up against the wall to read, the bed creeps down and I have to keep straightening up. With the head board that problem should be eliminated. And of course it will be a great new look for our bedroom. So the wife says. LOL With that have a great day. I am off for my morning coffee and a bagel. GW
The sun woke me up this morning which is a nice change. Nothing nicer than being greeted in the morning with sunshine. Temperatures are a bit cool though sitting at -10 C | 14 F It should start to warm up by the middle of the week. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning which will make travelling good. Today I am working in the shop finishing up the Queen size head board. Turned out pretty good so far. To finish it I need to purchase a gallon of white paint and once painted it should be a great new piece for our bedroom. In the beginning I was thinking of buying one, but after seeing the prices I changed my mind. For what you have to pay I could make four of them. Making them my wife gets what she wants, which makes it that much nicer. She designs things up and I make them. Great team. It’s been that way for over 48 years. So with that I am off to put some wood in the furnace and check the stove in the woodworking shop. Have a great day. GW
Well nicer looking day than yesterday. When all said and done we had another four inches of snow. So it seems that March came in like a lion, and this year decided to go out like a lion. Weird weather for sure. Temperatures were sitting at -5.6 C | 21.92 F It will remain cool today but then start to warm up. I refuse to wake my snowblower up. This time round, Nature put the white stuff there, Nature can take it away. Highway 522 is bare this morning but wet, travelling should be pretty good other than messing up your vehicle, if you want to go for groceries, or, ? Myself I will stay home, as I Just washed my car and don’t feel a trip to town is worth getting it all dirty, with what ever they put down on the roads these days. Better days lie ahead. I think. With that I am off to put some more wood in the furnace and have a cup of fresh perked coffee with my lovely wife. Enjoy your day! GW
Well spring might be here calendar wise, but looking outside it sure isn’t. At the moment it is snowing and temperatures are quite cool. -2.1 C | 28.22 F I don’t suspect it will warm up much for a day or so. Highway 522 is becoming snow covered so driving won’t be great today. We could see around 2 inches (5.08 cm) of the white stuff. Not enough to wake up my snowblower by no means but still, its spring! Today once again I will be working away in my woodworking shop. The dust from the wood for the past few years has been taking its toll on me. I have tried everything to make it bearable but I guess the writing is on the wall that my woodworking days are slowly coming to an end. I guess it is the price you pay for years of working in a not so good enviorment. But I am not complaining, too much. I do have other avenues to take in life if I so choose. With that I am off to put some more wood in the furnace and shop stove, and have a coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW
Nice looking day here in Port Loring. Sun is shinning once again. Temperatures are a bit cool sitting at -3.5 C | 25.7 F Cool enough to warrant me lighting up the wood furnace in the house, and shop. Highway 522 is bare and dry. We didn’t get the rain they said we were going to get yesterday. Actually we had some sun off an on for most the day. Today looks like the same. The snow is about half gone or better. Myself I have been working away in the woodworking shop. Making a new head board for our bedroom. It is being made out of Hard-Maple which should be really nice when all said and done. With that I am off for my morning coffee and a bite to eat. Have a great day. GW
Cloudy this morning with temperatures sitting at 5.6 C | 42.08 F It’s a bit warmer today so the snow we have should be melting quite fast. Highway 522 is bare and dry at the moment but it’s suppose to rain later on today. On another note I did manage to get the car washed yesterday and even had enough energy to vacuum the inside. Looks pretty good now. My wife and I even got to sit outside in the sun yesterday soaking up a few rays. I am looking forward to a lot more front porch sittin’ in the coming days. With that I am off for my breakfast and a cup of coffee, and will see what the day has in-store for us. Have a great day. GW
So, to start things off the sun is shinning. It makes a fellow want to get of bed. There is nothing better than sunshine to greet you in the morning, other than maybe the color of green. Temperatures were sitting at -3.5 C | 25.7 F It will warm up to around 7 C/45 F later on once the sun warms things up a touch. Highway 522 is bare and dry once again which will make traveling good. Might be a good day to go to town for groceries and things as tomorrow it is going to rain. But it is needed to get rid of the snow and clean things up. Myself I think I will wash the car once again, and if I get real energetic, I might even vacuum the inside. Being such a nice day. So with that, have a great day. I am off for my breakfast and a cup of coffee with my lovely wife. GW
A great looking day here waking up. The sun is shinning once again and other than a touch cool it is shaping up for a nice day. Temperatures were sitting at -6.5 C | 20.3 F It will warm up as the day progresses and even warmer for tomorrow. We should get rid of a bunch of snow by the weekend. Highway 522 is bare and dry which will make traveling good today. My wife and I did go to North Bay yesterday to pick up some things, that our son Karl fixed up for us. It’s great having a family of techs. We then picked up a few items and had lunch at East Side Mario’s. We both had a Budda Burger. A 6 ounce char-grilled patty served with crisp romaine lettuce, tomato and red onion on an ACE® Bakery bun. Topped with your favorite cheese: Provolone, Gorgonzola, Pizza mozzarella, Goat cheese OR Top with two strips of bacon.. My wife added a Caesar salad to make things a bit healthy. LOL I added a bowl of Roasted Garlic Tomato Soup. I have to say it was a delicious meal. Also, the waitresses were very nice. Oh! And a piece of Strawberry Cheese Cake which we shared. It was actually free as it was my wife’s birthday. So great day for sure and the weather was an added plus. Have a great day. GW
Cool morning waking up. Temperatures were sitting at -16 C | 3.2 F It will warm up quite a bit as the day progresses. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning which will make traveling good. The sun is shinning which also makes things that much better. Seems if the sun is upon us we humans are happy. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace once again and will see what this day has in store for us. I got lots to do outside but being so cold I just don’t feel like doing them. And why should I? Have a great day. GW
Nice looking day here this morning. Sun is shinning, birds are chirping and things are warming up slowly. I see the crows are back from their trip south which is a sure sign spring is on the doorstep. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2.5 C | 27.5 F They are calling for a bit of snow today along with some snow squalls in certain areas. But the good news is, things will warm up even more tomorrow, so if we do get any it won’t last long. Highway 522 is bare and dry as I type but that could change later on. I would say half of our snow has left us. I have been watching our gardens for the snow drops that we have here and there, but haven’t seen any yet. It won’t be long though, and they will be showing themselves. They are a pretty little flower that is the first to come up in the spring, even if there is snow still on the ground. My wife and I enjoy watching for them. So with that I am off to put another log in the fire and then enjoy a nice cup of fresh perked coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW
For a change it is nice and sunny waking up. Temperatures are a touch cool sitting at -11.7 C | 10.94 F It is supposed to warm up later on. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, so it should be a great day to head off into North Bay for some groceries. Myself I am going to clean my shop this morning. It seems I can sure make a mess of things over winter. Once finished, I will be ready to get to work on some new projects that I want to make. It’s nice having a place that I can go, to get out of the house after a long cold winter. I do have a stove in there which keeps it nice and warm, but on the cold days the house seems like a better option. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day and enjoy that sunshine. GW
A Bouquet my lovely wife made awhile ago. She knows how to brighten up a day.
This morning waking up it is cloudy, cold and quite windy with a few flurries thrown in for good measure. You can expect more of the same for most of the day. You know what they say about Port Loring. If you don’t like the weather, wait fifteen minutes. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -1.5 C | 29.3 F With the wind it feels much colder. I was hoping I would be able to stop burning wood but it isn’t the case for today. Highway 522 is bare as of now but that could change. Great day to stay inside. I did manage to wash the car yesterday, which always makes me smile. Something about washing our car I enjoy, maybe it’s preserving our investment. What ever the reason it’s always nice to be outside when it’s a nice day of course. With that I will once again put some wood in the furnace and then enjoy a cup of fresh perked coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW
Another cloudy day waking up with some mist over Lake Wauquimakog. Temperatures were sitting at; 1.7 C | 35.06 F The snow is melting quite fast these days with about half of what we had gone. It will be nice to see it all gone with green entering into the picture. Highway 522 is bare and wet this morning which will make traveling tempting. Myself I am taking life easy as it should be. Why is that? Just because I can. My Dad used to say, after all these years I earned it. With that I am off for a cup of fine coffee and enjoy a pancake breakfast that my lovely wife has prepared. Enjoy your day. GW
I was searching through my notes the other day and found that a new study says that Navel oranges can boost your immune system, and aid in skin health. They are also very good for your heart, and there is mounting evidence that suggests eating oranges may help reduce the risk of respiratory diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, different ulcers and kidney stones. The vitamin C in oranges may also boost a person’s immunity which could help with infections like the common cold and ward off flu’s. I kind of figured that. They also found that vitamin C in oranges may help in preventing certain cancers. But as anything, too much of a good thing isn’t always good. One orange a day is all you need. Kind of like the apple saying. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. GW
To start things off it’s cloudy. But on the good side of the coin it is supposed to stay around the 40F/4C for most the day and into tomorrow, which should eliminate a lot more snow. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -1.1 C | 30.02 F Not too bad. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout for a change, which will make traveling good. On another note my lovely wife and I took a trip to North Bay yesterday for some supplies. It was a nice sunny day, and we actually had to take our winter coat off. The only downside of things was the roads and side streets in North Bay. I have been in a lot of cities but this is one of the worst for pot holes and snow accumulation along the side of the roads. There was one spot that I was thankful we had 4 Wheel drive as the hole I had to go through full of water and ice was a challenge. If I could have gotten turned around I would have, but as it stood there was no other option. Other than that the day was quite nice. We met our son at Casey’s and had lunch together. It was pretty good. I tried their new meat loaf burger, but they put too much thyme and other spices in it, which I didn’t like. My wife had fish and chips but the fries were not the best, and the fish was cod and very greasy. My son had the half turkey club with a bowl of red pepper soup and Caesar- salad, which was great. If we go back, that is what we will have. Live and learn they say. We did have a nice visit with our son though, which is always a pleasure. After that we picked up what was needed and headed on home. Great day, and it was good to get away from the house for a while. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace and will see what this day has in-store for us. Have a great day! GW
So … not a bad looking day other than a few clouds getting out of bed. We are supposed to have sunshine today and temperatures should be warming up as the day progresses. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -3.7 C | 25.34 F Highway 522 is bare and dry which will make traveling quite nice for a change. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace and see what the day has in store for us. Enjoy your day. GW
Here is a couple pictures of the garlic I planted last year. We had enough to last us all winter, along with sharing some with friends. There is nothing like fresh garlic to give you the energy you need to put out a good days work. It also is a great asset for those suffering from allergies of spring. 1 clove a day is all that is needed. Cooked or eaten raw, either way is beneficial. GW
Fresh out of the garden!I of four bundles ready to hang for winter.
