On another note, the weather station is up and running as you can see. The graphs are working great and more will be added as Karl finds time and gets over his sore back, as he hurt himself trying to open his car door after they froze. So he is home from work recuperating for a couple days. Quite a painful ordeal. Always something. Just got to figure out how to get his doors open on his car now for him. Might have to make a trip to North Bay and give him a hand. Back to the weather station. As I said the graphs are all working fine and sensor is doing its job, other than one part which is the wind speed. With all the rain we have had and then dropping so fast, the cups froze up solid, so will take a day or so to come back on line. Being solid aluminum, as soon as the sun hits it, it will thaw things out. Other than that things are working fine. Enjoy your day my friends.

Not much to report, still quite quiet around town as folks are kinda staying home with it being so cold and rightly so, as it is a touch hard on folks. Not to forget our cars and things too. But still good to get some fresh air, just make sure you cover your mouth and dress warm. Enjoy your day my friends.
Well as every one knows it is darn cold out there. Today will continue being very cold with a few flurries here and there. One will have to watch out for the wind chills if the wind picks up which could reach down to minus -40f. Todays High -11F. Winds will be from the NNW and calm. As it has been for the past three days, not a breath of wind, hard to believe really. Never seen it so calm for so long. Bet you never even notices huh? Tonight it will remain very cold with a few flurries. Low tonight around -30F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph. maybe. No guarantees on the wind speed, got me baffled. Highway 522 is snow packed and icy up to Highway524 then not to bad the rest of the way to Highway 11. Not sure about that we do pay taxes down at this end. Anyways the sun rose this morning showing off at; 7:51 AM & will set at 5:10 PM. Giving us here in Port Loring, 9 hrs. 19 mins. of daylight. Gained another 2 minutes yesterday. Quiet and not much to report. Sun is shinning though which makes one day a touch better. Just darn cold with temperatures hovering around the -13F here this morning. Oh well we do live in the north and it is winter. But one good thing will come from this cold. Flu and cold virus’s will quickly die off as they can’t survive the cold temperatures. Just one more reason why you don’t need the flu shot. Let nature run its course is my opinion on the subject and all will work out. Only time we find problems is when us humans get our hands in the pot. Also if you got a cold or flu…stay home and quite giving it to folks, doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the benefits of doing that. Sheesh. The only way it can spread is the ones that is sick going out and giving it to others. Not a real hard fix is it? Stay home!!!!!!! Some say well I can’t afford to stay home. You can’t afford not to as you keep on passing it to others where you work and visit. Eventually you catch it again a different one from folks doing the same as you are doing. None ending cycle and the only ones making money are the pharmaceutical companies, doctors and drug stores. You yourself keeps getting poorer and poorer. Not a good thing my friends use common sense.
Good morning. Today it will be a cold one. We will have some clouds with some sun as the day progresses. We could see some snow flurries later on. High today will reach only -1F. Winds will be light from the East North East coming in at around 5 mph. Tonight will continue on being quite cold. A few clouds with some flurries possible.. Low tonight will drop down to-19F. Winds will come in from the NNE at 5 to 10 mph. We could see about an inch of new snow but with being so cold I doubt it. The sun rose this morning at; 7:52 AM & will set at 5:09 PM. Giving us here in Port Loring; 9 hrs. 17 mins. of daylight. gained 3 minutes yesterday. Looking good. Highway 522 is snow packed with some bad icy sections here and there so one should take care when driving and give yourself lots of room to stop if necessary. News For Port Loring
Nothing much happening around our old homestead here this morning. just going to have a cup of tea and I guess we will just have to see what the day brings upon us. An old writer friend of mine one told me this while sitting chatting. “George, we are only limited by our imagination.” Have a great day my friends.
Using my data on hand I have come with our long term weather forecast. I believe we could get two storms that are worth mentioning (January 25 – 26 and January 31 – February 3) We will also feel some of the coldest temperatures of the year within these time frames. February looks to be, on average, quite to very cold! So might pay to split an extra bit of kindlin’ for the next month or so
Good morning. Hope all is well with every one. Today it will be windy with snow flurries this morning. Partly cloudy with some sun today. We will see some very intense wind chills today which will push temperatures down to -30F. High today will only reach 3F. Winds will be from the WNW at 20 to 30 mph. From my data I figure we could see another inch or so of snow. We could see some wind gusts of over 40 mph. Come tonight it will get very cold due to the clear sky. Kind of thinking it will be the coldest day of the year so far with lows dropping down to -25F. or for those using metric -35C. Winds will change to the North North West coming in this evening at 5 to 10 mph. So one will for sure need that extra blanket on the bed tonight. The sun did rise this morning showing off some at; 7:53 AM & will set at: 5:07 PM. Giving us here in Port Loring; 9 hrs. 14 mins. Gained 1 minute of daylight yesterday. For those wanting to head on out to do some ice fishing today. First off you should dress warm and the second take extra care with the high winds. The old weather stick says the best time to be out there today will be from: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. Highway 522 is snow covered with packed snow and Ice. One should take caution if driving. News For Port Loring
Nice sunny day folks with temperatures up near 30 F so great day to head on out and soak up some of that sunshine. If one could get out of the wind in a real secluded spot, you would be able to almost take your shirt off. The day before yesterday I could start feeling the warmth from the sun again. Feels good too and nothing is better for ones health. The cold is what is needed to get rid of the flu bug and the sunshine prevents you from getting it. No flu shot needed. Always surprises me with so many flu shots being handed out that the flu in this country is getting worse. That in itself should tell folks something. Will it? Not likely.. Anyways, have a great day my friends.
Good morning. Weather wise it will be somewhat windy today with snow flurries this morning. High will reach up to near 36F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Might get about another inch. We did have around ten inches or so through out the bush but with the melting yesterday we are now down to about six inches or so. Tonight will remain windy with cloudy skies clearing near morning. Low tonight will reach down to around 16F. Winds will be from the West coming in at 15 to 25 mph. The sun rose behind some clouds this morning at; 7:59 AM & will set at 4:53 PM. Giving us here in Port Loring, 8 hrs. 54 mins. of daylight. Gained one more minute yesterday. Every bit helps. For those wanting to do some fishing, the old weather stick says the best times to be out there will be from; 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Then again from; 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM. Fair day for fishing. Very quiet around town. Nice weather though for them outdoor walks. Nothing is more healthier than a good brisk walk every day; does the mind and body both good and if the truth be known, other than good eating habits nothing more needs to be done. On another note: Highway 522 is bare today, so traveling is quite good. In saying that, there could be a few patches of ice here and there so some care should be taken. Enjoy your day my friends.

News For Port Loring
Well finally the new weather station for Port Loring is up and running. Took us the better part of yesterday to get the sensors situated and sending data. I will add things manually here at the Blog till Karl has the graphs and added features installed onto the Local Service’s Boards Man Page. Lot of work now for Karl to get things just right. But the cold outside work is finished and everything is working great. On another note we will see some pretty cold weather coming to us here in Port Loring with in the next 10-15 days from a Large Arctic Front that is bearing down on us. I also predict a very cold February. So winter is upon us folks, time to bundle up if going outside, along with keeping the home fires burning. Snowmobiles and ice fishing folks will be happy. Great to be alive though. Isn’t it? Also I will start adding the best times to be out there ice fishing; brought to you by our weather stick and some old ways added in; starting in a few days. Just need to get a few more things together to complete that task. Enjoy your day my friends.
On another note my son Karl that works at NORAD started installing a new weather monitoring station for Port Loring. It is being set up here at my home. This station consists of one Data Logger, http://www.valcom-guelph.com/products/VEDASII.htmlOne Transmitter;http://www.valcom-guelph.com/products/VGOES-HDR.html One antenna;http://www.valcom-guelph.com/products/Crossed_Yagi.htmlOne GPS unit for signal assessment, along with the new Met Station One (MSO) weather station which combines five of the most popular meteorological measurements into one simple, economical package, allowing for efficient and accurate comprehensive weather monitoring. Karl has everything set up as of now, all but the sensor which will be added once it arrives with in the next few days. It will be quite the thing for Port Loring now having a weather station of its own. With folks being able to check daily of what is happening in and around our community relating to our weather conditions. All Data relating to our weather will be uploaded to our Local Service Boards Web Sitehttp://www.loringlsb.com/ every few minutes, along with being stored for future reference. Also we will be working on a local forecast which will be added as the station progresses. I have been collecting weather data for most my life using nature as my main reference book, along with some simple scientific devises. Just something that I have enjoyed doing. Now with this new high end station it will sure be a treat, along with being a great asset for our community. Thing is we don’t have a station that is accurate pertaining to our own conditions being so far off the beaten track. Our data comes from stations in and around North Bay & Britt Ontario. Here in Port Loring, weather can, an is most of the times quite different than what we are being told. The station that is being set up here in Port Loring will be every bit as good, if not a touch better than the government stations that are out there today. Reason being we will be monitoring it daily along with adding the most efficient sensors that are out there in todays market. Now for most, you are probably saying. OK…what is this going to cost us? Well other than a few dollars for uploading data to your web site and a few dollars more for making a program to handle the weather data on your Local Services Boards Web site; it will cost you; nothing to speak of. I myself along with my son Karl and Valcom the company that my son is employed with has absorbed every cent. It is something that my son and I have always wanted to do and have now done so. It will be our contribution to our community. There is other costs of maintaining the equipment & station how ever, along with adding new sensors as time goes by. So we will be adding a donation button on the web site. This will leave things up to you, if you like and enjoy having your own private weather station, then it will be your own decision if you want to contribute in its future, simple as that. For more information on the weather station feel free to contact me; George Walters at [email protected]
