News For Port Loring & District
Quiet around town these days with it being deer hunting season. I have to say I did quite well this year with bringing down a good size ten pointer buck. In actuality it was so nice I had the head done up along with the skin. Always wanted one so now got one for the living room. Some I know it is not their cup of tea, but for us up here in the north for most, it is a part of our normal day living.. I look at this way. I do not hunt for sport, I hunt for the meat and if a really nice one comes along I take it even one step further and instead of discarding the skins and head I have a taxidermist do them up professionally. Nothing goes to waste. So all an all I have had a great year and, yea…it isn’t over yet. I won’t be going back out till the weekend as got some things to do but will try my best to finish the hunt off come Saturday and Sunday with my friends the Booth.s and others. So far this year one Doe and two nice size Bucks. Enjoy your day my friends and stay safe.
Well looking like a nice day heading our way. Could see a few flurries but nothing to be concerned about. At least not for our area. For all your weather information click here…http://www.loringlsb.ca/weather-station/

News For Port Loring
Lots of folks out hunting this year. Cars & Trucks all along 522 with folks heading off back into the bush. I have to say I am very fortunate having the Booth family as friends to hunt with, as being private land, it kind of takes the worry out of who and where the other hunters around a feller. Not to forget they all are a great bunch of folks to hunt with. So….2 Bucks down so far, will go and see if we can get another couple today. If so everyone should have lots of meet in the freezer for winter and next summer. Enjoy your day my friends and stay safe.

Hope you all are enjoying the hunt. We at the Booth’s Farm have two nice bucks hanging so far. I took down a really nice buck yesterday weighing in over 200 pounds. Call it a trophy buck as it was in perfect condition. Ten pointer. Going to have Cathy’s Brother do the head up so I have it for the wall. It is so nice one just couldn’t discard it. So come next summer should be really nice added feature for our home. Today… well, have to see how the weather holds out. If rain holds off should make for a good day. Jack Ross got the other buck nice one also. So we are doing really well so far this year. All bucks were taken down within the times I share with you folks. Stay safe and enjoy your day.

Good day to be inside. Good ting about the not so good weather is it isn’t cold outside. Not so good for hunting season which is closing in on us for Monday morning. But one never really knows, all depends on how the deer are feeling on these days. If hungry or in need of getting rid of some energy they will be up and about. Myself I will be heading out with the Booth Family and will hunt for the week. Things goes right will put some meat in the freezer for winter. I have to say I enjoy going out with Kerry and his family and friends, nice folks and great to hunt with. Lots of laughs and well…just great company. Looking forward to it. Enjoy your day my friends.

Not to much to report around town. Things are quite quiet but for those that are interested in seeing the colors the leave are showing off as I speak. I figure end of the week we will be right in the middle of all its splendor. Again one has to take advantage of these things as they happen or….well…..you miss out. Today is firewood day here at our home, going to see if I can get a few cords tucked away for what surely lies ahead. Was going to do it yesterday or start on it but got sidetracked with the mowing for the last time. Needed it too. Have a great day my friends. GW

Fishing times will stop at the end of the month and will enter hunting times. That is if I am still here as it will be up to the new LSB Board to decide if they still want me to carry on. Lots on my plate these days so have to see what develops on my end of things also. This year my wife and I managed to do up around sixty jars of tomatoes and still have quite a few on the vines. Might just get a few more if I don’t keep eating them as fast as the ripen. Dill is ready to harvest so should have a couple quart jars of them also. Second crop of onions is coming along with all of this years garlic hanging in the shed with the first crop of onions drying beside them. Will be tasty this winter. Not to much to report here this morning. I did get out with a friend of mine to do a bit of fishing yesterday. Fished steady all day but only got one Bass. Weighed in though at five pounds so had some nice eating there for sure. Three meals to be exact. Was very calm no movement of water at all. Winds were coming in from the East and got very warm. Put all them things together and you got a poor day for fishing. Had to work at it to get the one. But no matter just being out there in Nature makes it all worth while let me tell ya. Mosquitoes are slowing down some which is OK by me. Took a couple pictures of yesterdays Catch click picture to enlarge. Enjoy your day.

News For Port Loring & District
Took a drive to town yesterday and have to say it is a busy place. North Bay that is. Lots of folks out and about and most carrying packages or pushing shopping carts. So good sign that folks are spending money which makes for a good economy. I am thinking it will be a good year business wise here in Port Loring. Our small store has kept us busy now for the last month or so. Kind of just the opposite of last year. Bass season opens this Saturday. Limits are 2 for C License 6 for Sports License. Myself I get to fish for free being over 65 which has been earned over the years. Should be a lot more added things that are free for us seniors relating to nature. It would cut down on health issues over 50%. Will the powers to be listen? Not likely. Enjoy your day my friends.

Managed to get the weather sensor back up and running. Working good now with a few minor calibrations needed on our part. Should be in complete form later on this morning. Ended up after all said and done, with shipping it back we got a newer version of our sensor plus a donation on their part of a 150 foot cable installed directly to the sensor by the manufacturer along with being calibrated. So all in all was worth the effort in sending it back. The folks we purchased it from in Oregon USA; MET ONE were very helpful and great folks to deal with. They bent over backwards in getting us fixed up and back on the air. I have always said a good product is fine, but the service one gets after the fact, is just as important if not more. This sensor we have is not made off shore neither, it is made right in the USA. Can’t beat that. Any of the graphs can be clicked on which in turn will open a really detailed graph. Just one more added feature that Karl put together for us here at the LSB. At the top is the forecast for the day which changes as weather data changes. Not to much to report around town. I did make a trip to North Bay on the weekend to visit my son Karl. He has been feeling poorly these past few weeks, but slowly coming around with the help of a good doctor friend of mine. At any rate there is no shortage of cars moving around North Bay, or folks not spending money, as every store that I went into we had to wait at the checkouts. Grocery and Wall-mart the most busiest, coming in second was the gas stations. Should mention that gas is a heck of a price these days coming in at $1.30 a liter. What should be up there on them signs is the real price. Should read: $5.20 a Gallon and a gallon doesn’t go very far. This metric in my eyes was brought on to us for only one thing. To fool folks into believing things aren’t really that expensive. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Some call it progress, that’s a laugh. I call it tactics to fool the human race. And they are good at it too. My opinion only, of course. Enjoy your day my friends.

Highway 522 is snow covered with some icy sections. Care should be taken if driving. Also one should watch for the deer as they are more pronounced this time of year, especially at dusk. They like the salt which is spread on the roads. The sun rose this morning showing off at: 7:34 AM & will set at 5:32 PM. Giving us here in Port Loring Ontario: 9 hrs. 58 mins. of daylight. Gained 2 more minutes yesterday. For those wanting to do some ice fishing the old weather stick says the best times to be out there today will be from: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Well still pretty quiet around town. Had some snow yesterday afternoon, around six inches to be exact. So driveway is in need of cleaning once again. So we will be able to get our exercise this morning shoveling it by hand. Enjoy doing it actually, if it is light. Gets us out so we can breath some of that fresh northern air into our lungs, along with soaking up a bit of that sunshine. On another note, Karl has been working steadily on our LSB Weather for the Web Site. He put an added feature which shows text data at the top of the weather page which updates on its own showing what the variables are every so often. I would also like to say that we are very lucky to have Karl doing this for us. As with out his expertise it wouldn’t have happened. Not an easy chore to say the least. Other than cold outside not much happening around town. Folks are staying inside relaxing by the fire it seems. Can’t say I rightly blame them neither. Myself I am steadily working on our new weather station here in Port Loring with Karl getting the bugs out of it. Slow process but once done it will be a greatly needed feature for our community. It is working now just needs some things worked out to make it more efficient. I am also working on my fifth book which will be coming out in the spring, another slow project as there is so much to do in putting it together. But both are things we enjoy doing,my wife and I. Well tea time here, keep warm and drive safe. In Closing I Would Like To Wish You Well.
