Nugget Column Update

Well my column had been getting a lot of activity these days so that always makes me feel good.  Nice to know folks are enjoying them and letting me know their feelings.   This week in the Nugget the column relates to what is and has been happening around the old place along with touching on a few other things.  So don’t forget to pick up a copy of the Nugget next time your near or store, remember though my column only comes out in the Saturday paper in and around page six.  Talk Soon.

Working Away Here in The shop

Well been busy here the past few days making sawdust in the old shop.  Nice on days like this when the weather is snowing blowing and cold outside to be in there working away where it’s nice and warm. Gives a fellow a good feeling inside.  Burned a lot of wood this season so far guess it’s because of an early start in the burning season as last year it was colder but didn’t burn as much.  Oh well got lots so not worried.  Hope you all are keeping busy.  Talk Soon.

Woodworking Shop

Well been working in the shop the past few days on some projects for our small store come spring.  Keeps me busy and I enjoy it.  Gets me out of the house and keeps the old mind moving in the right direction.  For folks that sit around the house all day, find your self something that interests you and get out there and do it.  Keeps us older and younger folks healthy.  Nothing worse than to just sit around and do nothing.   I figure each day I wake up an look outside I am given another day so I make the most of it trying not to waste one minute, life is just to short for that.  Talk Soon.

Snow Pretty Well All Gone

Well we had our January thaw. Some would say now that the Global Warming has hit but I say it’s nothing of the sort.  January thaws have been with us from the beginning of time. Some years are more pronounced than some but for most parts they are about the same.  One thing about this thaw was, I got rid of the ice build up on my roof.  I sure had a lot this year and it was my own fault.  I didn’t shut up the upstairs and the warmth got up there and well that is what causes the ice jams.  So now that it is melted I closed up the old trap door and it should be good for the next couple months till spring hits.  Today was sunny a first for a few days so that was nice to see for a change. Cooler but nice.  Talk Soon.

Enjoying Them Summer Vegtables

Well with winter about half way through we sure have been enjoying our preserves we did up last summer. Nothing can be nicer that enjoying fresh fruit and veggies in the middle of winter.  Also nice knowing that we are eating health food too as growing them you know what’s in them or on them.  We put away lots of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, and just to many veggies to name. The wife freezes most of them but she does up a lot of tomatoes in jars.  One has to put a bit of work into a garden but the benefits out way the work.  Well thought I would say hello and hope you are all doing well in 2008, man where does the time go. Talk Soon

Pretty Good Day

Well not a bad day here today but calling for a storm later on tonight. Up to around four or five inches of the white stuff is what they are calling for.  Talk Soon.

Christmas Has Arrived Here In Port Loring

Well had a great day here but then again any day is good living up here in the north.  Spent most the day with family. I did though sneak off for a bit to my shop as I got a used planner for my Christmas Present this year. My boys bought it for me along with my oldest boys Fiancee. So sure made my day.  Its an older machine but heavy cast iron one as I didn’t want one of those new light CTC ones.  This one is taking a bit of work to get working properly but almost there now.  Just need a couple new belts and should be up and running. Well it’s running now but this is just preventative maintenance.  I did run a few boards through it today and got to say it sure worked like a charm. I also had to shorten the one chain that drives the in-feed rollers,  not a big deal but the way it was it wouldn’t even pull the wood through.  Probably that is why the fellow sold it. Thing is,  if a fellow or gal puts their minds to these things they can end up with some real nice equipment for a minimal cost.   Now finishing off the day chatting to my lovely wife and my youngest boy Karl. My oldest had to leave for home as they had to go to work. But I had a good time with them while they were here. So better go, talk soon and again Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas Folks

Well Christmas is almost here.  We had the boys up for a visit, the oldest has left for home and the youngest is staying for a week.  Had a real good time while they were here just not long enough.  Yesterday we had heavy rain but the good part it got rid of some ice dams on my roof. One more day like that would have cleaned it right up. Oh well that’s the way it goes.  This morning though woke up to about five more inches of snow so that guaranteed a white Christmas.  My speed for the weather station is froze up so won’t be able to upload the wind speed till it thaws out a bit.  The directional works though after a bit of work.  Talk Soon

Port Loring Weather Station

Looks like a wee bit of sunshine here for today and warming up tomorrow and on Sunday.  Kind of hoping for that so the ice dams on my roof will melt.  Guess I got to do something about them next year. Talk Soon.

Cold Night

Well temperatures have dropped here since supper and was down to -3Below old scale, rising a wee bit now. Kind of nice though with this wood heat as it is a constant heat. The nice thing also is we have an old gravity fed furnace from years ago. Works great and once you come into the house from outside you are warm. Talk Soon
