Morning Chat Sep12/2021

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario. I am thinking we will see some sunshine later on with the weather improving. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 11.6 C | 52.88 F with the winds coming in from the SSW. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is still busy, but not as much traffic as there was a couple of weeks ago. Which is nice for a change. On another note, I finished painting my front door yesterday, well … I still have to put on one more coat. It looks pretty nice. It’s these cosmetic things that brings everything together. Furthermore, it’s like building a Million-Dollar House. If you don’t landscape it properly, it won’t look as it should. No appeal. The thing is, you don’t need a Million Dollar home. An old home to me with a great landscape and a bit of land is what it is all about. If someone bought an older home, put some money into the landscaping, fixed up the inside along with some paint, it would beat any Million Dollar home hands down. Today people have to have huge homes, and if you were to take a close look at them, you would find that there is probably no more than two or three people living in them. All that space costs money to keep maintained. To me, they are just cold in looks and comfort. But to each their own. Today I am going to work in my woodworking shop getting things ready to make a bunch of orders I have lined up for next spring. Along with that, we are planning on having a grand new re-opening next spring, after being closed for the past two years. That is, if things goes to plan with this virus that is among us. I think things will settle down as time goes by, that is, if people start doing what they should be doing. It’s still not the time to let down our defences, as this virus is out to get us humans. And for those that don’t believe that … well, good luck! With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then see what the day has in store other than what I have planned. Stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today My old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and then again from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Weather Watch For Port Loring and Surrounding Areas

Tornado Watch

Start; Saturday, September 11, 3:30 PM EDT

End; Saturday, September 11, 10:00 PM EDT

Source: Environment Canada

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes.

Isolated tornadoes are possible from severe thunderstorms this afternoon into early evening.

Damaging wind gusts and large hail are also possible.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.

Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or freestanding shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

COVID-19 vaccine

I have been asked My Thoughts on the vaccines:
You know, some folks still believe that this virus isn’t that bad. Even with all the evidence, along with the millions that have died from it. Makes me wonder how they can justify that in their minds. At any rate, it should be noted that there isn’t any way that we know of, in avoiding getting infected, whether you’re vaccinated or not. But. As hard as it is to believe by some, the Pfizer and Moderna Vaccines only train your immune system to understand and recognize that it is under attack, and if and when the virus does enter your body, and your immune system is working well, it is then ready to attack this virus, and … in most cases you will survive; and we are relatively assured that we won’t have a lot of problems down the road away with other complications. If you’re not vaccinated, the chances of having serious problems or even death is greatly increased. Some say well … I had the virus, and it was about as bad as a cold. Well … you’re one of the lucky ones, but the thing is, later on after you have had the virus, they are now finding that those that didn’t get vaccinated and had the virus is now having some serious problems with other things like lung problems, heart problems and so on. Off course, the unvaccinated will have a come back and say … you could have the same things happen if you do have the vaccines. In respect to their thinking, they are right. But with all the evidence now coming out from all over the world, the vaccines have proven that they have saved millions and millions of lives and slowed things down. The next thing is that those that aren’t vaccinated now have a greater chance than ever before of getting the virus, as it is rapidly seeking them out. Why is that? Simply put, it is on survival mode, and it will do anything it has to do to survive and the only way it can do that is find those that aren’t vaccinated or mutate inside those that aren’t vaccinated. At any rate, no matter how you look at things and with all the evidence that is out there today. I am happy my wife and family, and me are vaccinated. I would sooner take a chance which is almost nil having the vaccine than lying in the hospital gasping for air or for that matter spreading it to others and maybe even killing someone. My Opinion Only. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat Sep. 11/2021

Good Morning! It’s a not so bad day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun after struggling has made an appearance and should remain with us for most of the day. But in saying that, we will probably see some showers or rain later on in the day. It’s that time of year, folks, when anything is possible. Something like what we are dealing with, with this virus. It is a nice time of year though, the leaves are changing colour, no bugs hardly to speak of, things have quieted down with the tourists back in the city and the fishing is pretty good. And along with all that, most of all my wife’s and my outside work has been completed. Front porch sittin is in the works!! The temperature this morning isn’t as cool as it was yesterday morning, sitting at 15.3 C | 59.54 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward. Today I am going to paint our front door as it is starting to show signs of wear. Best to get it out of the way before the real cold hits. The paint sticks better at the moment. LOL After that … who knows. So with that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there fishing will be from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM and then again from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. I give it a 4-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good luck and don’t forget to take along your rain coat.

Morning Chat Sept. 10/2021

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. And it is a touch cool, with the temperature sitting at 8.5 C | 47.3 F. I actually had to put some heat into our home this morning for the first time. The winds are from the east, which as they used to say is; Isn’t Fit For Man Nor Beast. I have to agree with that old quote. We should see some sunshine later on. Highway 522 has slowed down a wee bit. The bugs for the year has pretty well left us, too, which makes it nice to be out there fishing. Not that I have been out there lately, as my wife and I have been really busy trying to get things done up before winter. We still have to bring in our firewood, which I suspect we will get at next weekend. I managed to paint all the walls in our basement this year, so it is all set for winter. It brightened up things a lot. It wasn’t a hard job, as a few years ago I bought a paint sprayer which I never used, so I figured I would put it to good use. Worked slick and cut the painting time down to less than half, and it also saved a lot of paint. Yesterday, my lovely wife and I started in on our flower gardens, working them up and cutting some of them down in size. We did do some major work on them earlier in the year, now we are finishing it up. It is quite a job with all the bending and digging. But if things goes to plan, we should have them in shape by the end of the day. After that, the wife wants to plant some tulips for next spring. Always something to do. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then see what the day has in store. You never know what a day might bring. Take care and stay safe, the numbers are rising with infections regarding this virus that is among us. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there with your line in the water will be between 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM and then again from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. With the winds coming in from the East, I don’t suspect it is going to be the greatest day for fishing. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. You might want to bring along a warm jacket along with your raincoat. Good Luck! Oh, and maybe a thermos of hot coffee.

Election Canada

Stone-throwing incident at Trudeau event.

Hmm. Seems to me that a lot of people are not happy with what Trudeau has been doing throughout the last few years. Not that I believe that the stone throwing is a good thing, but it does put a perspective on what is in the minds of the voters today. It will be an interesting election. That is, if the NDP doesn’t join in with the Liberals as they usually do. Let’s hope this time round they stay on ground of their own. Only in Canada.

Morning Chat, Sept. 9/2021

Good morning. It is a bit cloudy this morning, with the temperature sitting at 11.4 C | 52.52 F. We should see a wee bit of sunshine as the day progress’s. The wind is coming from the North, which is the reason things have cooled down. Highway 522 picked up a bit yesterday with traffic. There are still a lot of Folks that are still off work getting paid by our government, so in reality there is no incentive to go back to work. They can travel, go into stores, have parties, protest, that’s okay, but to go to work isn’t. Makes me shake my head. At any rate that is the way our country is becoming, and I suspect it will get a lot worse before it gets better, people wise, that is. On another note, I didn’t do much outside yesterday with the rain and all. I stayed inside and wrote up a couple stories for my newspaper columns and magazines I write for. Which, in doing so, felt pretty good for a change. At least doing that, my body gets a rest, but my mind keeps busy. Today is mowing day for my lovely wife and I, so that will keep us busy for most of the day. And give us some exercise. So with that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, then again at 7:00 PM – 900 PM. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. It might pay to bring along a raincoat. This time of year, you can expect anything at any time when it comes to the weather. Good Luck!

Humour for a Wed Afternoon

The Rambo Granny of Melbourne , Australia

Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down…
and shot off their testicles.

“The old lady spent a week hunting those men down and, when she found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way,”said Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp.
Then she took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant’s desk and told him as calm as could be:
“Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God.”
Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cell mate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up.
The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas’ testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said.
“The one guy, Thomas, didn’t lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he won’t be using it the way he used to,”Detective Delp told reporters.

“Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they’re just happy to be alive after what they’ve been through.”
The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row.
“When I saw the look on my Debbie’s face that night in the hospital, I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself ’cause I figured the Law would go easy on them,” recalled the retired library worker.
“And I wasn’t scared of them, either – because I’ve got me a gun and I’ve been shootin’ all my life. And I wasn’t dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed about owning one.”
So, using a police artist’s sketch of the suspects and Debbie’s description of the sickos, tough-as-nails, Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill-fated rapists entering their flophouse hotel.
“I knew it was them the minute I saw ’em, but I shot a picture of ’em anyway and took it back to Debbie, and she said sure as hell, it was them,” the oldster recalled…
“So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the door, and the minute the big one opened the door, I shot ’em right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt ’em most, you know.
Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up, pleading to me to spare him.
Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in.”
Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny.
“What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison,”

Det. Delp said,

“Especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for Mayor.”

DEPORT HER TO CANADA, WE NEED HER!

Morning Chat, Sept. 8/2021

Good Morning. Well … in spite of what our weather experts were telling us, we are having some sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario this morning. And I have to say looking out at the shadows on our front lawn, it sure looks appealing, or in our old tongue … down right nice. Highway 522 has slowed down some, but not Highway 11. The reason I know this is, my wife and I had to make a trip to town yesterday, and it was almost bumper to bumper with cars, trucks, campers, you name it. And that was heading north. And on top of all that, the traffic in North Bay was unbelievable. We thought that with the kids going back to school, it would be a good time to pick up some much-needed clothes. But that was the wrong prediction. There are around 56000 people in North Bay and I don’t think one of them works, as I think we saw everyone that lives there. The stores were packed. The good news was that most folks were keeping their distance. But even still, you are taking a chance by going into these places. My wife and I have stayed out of them for almost two years, but there comes a time when a person needs pants, shirts, socks and shoes, LOL. So we had to bite the bullet and go get them. We just picked the wrong day. Anyway things worked out, we ate our lunch in our car, taking in what the city had to offer and came on home. All in all, we had a good day. A long, expensive day, but a good day. On the expensive part, things sure cost a lot these days. I can’t see how some of these stores can justify the increase. Like gas for our cars. We live in a country with more natural resources than anyone else in the world, and we Canadians pay the most. Ridiculous really. Today I will be painting our front door as it has been bugging me awhile now. So after I have my morning bowl of cereal, I will get at it. It will be a good job to get out of the way, as I can have the windows in the house open and along with that, I will be giving my old back a bit of a rest, as it isn’t up to par yet. With that, I will chat to you tomorrow if things goes to plan. Have a great day and stay safe, especially with so many people out and about. GW

Fishing Times; Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there fishing will be between 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM and then again from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. I give it a 3-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Morning Chat, Sept. 7/2021

Good Morning! It’s another great looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with just a few clouds in the sky. But in saying that, there is a storm warning up for tonight and tomorrow, where we could see a substantial amount of rain, along with some thunder and lightning thrown in for good measure. So … I would suggest that if you have any work that needs doing outside, today would be the day to do it. Highway 522 has slowed down with folks heading home for the summer. I have to say that after being cooped up for a few years not seeing that many people, my wife and I are going to miss them. It’s a crazy world we are living in at the moment. Will things get better? Well, being the age I am, and seeing the things that have happened over the years … it will get better given time. Yesterday I worked some more on our vegetable gardens, getting things ready for winter. I also did a bit of painting on my basement windows. Now that we have all the large projects out of the way for the year, I am now working on the little things that I have wanted to do for the past couple years. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then get to doing some outside work before the rain enters into the picture. Take care and stay safe. It’s not the time to let down your defences. GW

Fishing Times: Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there with pole in hand would be between 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM and then again from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM. I give it a 5-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. One of the best days of the year for fishing. Take care and stay safe, and don’t forget your rain coat. Good Luck!

Morning Chat, Sept. 6/2021

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The sun was shinning for a wee bit till some clouds rolled in. We should see a wee bit of sunshine off and on for most of the day. It kind of looks like we will have a mixed bag of weather for the next week before things straighten out. All caused by the hurricanes that are moving up from the south. But in saying that, the temperatures will be pretty nice. Getting out of bed, it was sitting at12.4 C | 54.32 F, not too hot … not too cold. Highway 522 was very busy yesterday. Folks in all kinds of vehicles heading back to the big cities or ? Yesterday I worked in our vegetable gardens, cleaning out some weeds and plants that aren’t producing anything anymore. I might put in a row of lettuce, so we can have some fresh salads for the remainder of the year. It only takes a couple of weeks to get up to size for eating. But we will see, as my old back started acting up yesterday morning. I thought the gardening might fix it, but it didn’t. It helped, but it bothered me a lot through the night. I chalk it up to all the work my lovely wife and I have done over the summer. Not much you can do other than take things easy for a few days, and let things heal. It amazes me how us humans abuse our bodies day in and day out, not realizing what we are doing. Especially when you get older. You would think we would know better!! On another note, it won’t be long before my wife and I have to bring in our firewood for winter. That is a job too. We don’t bring in as much as we used to, as this new NewMac Wood Furnace burns a lot more efficient. It cut our wood burning down to less than half of what we were using. Can’t beat that. It is work bringing in the wood, but when them cold days of winter arrive, it sure feels nice when we light it up. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Take care and stay safe. This virus is rising in numbers more every day. Mostly through the unvaccinated and young. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with your line in the water will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM and then again from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. It should be a great day for catching a few. I give it a 5-star rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good luck!

Morning Chat, Sept 5/2021

Good Morning. It’s another sunny morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. And if things go to plan, it should remain with us, along with some clouds, for most of the day. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 16.9 C | 62.42 F, with the winds coming out of the N West at 4.68 km/h | 2.91 mph. The barometer is rising, which is a good thing. At least weather wise. Highway 522 is still busy these days. We will see how that goes now that the kids are heading back to school next week. Hard to say, as a lot of people are working from home these days, caused by the virus. And as hard as it is to say … a lot of folks don’t want to go back to work. Reason being, they are still getting the money that the government is handing out. I actually know some business that can’t find help and might have to close down. Strange world we live in these days. But, being the country we are, I suspect things will be getting a lot worse in that department. Yesterday, my wife and I worked around our home. I decided to move our weather station to a better location. We moved it and attached it to our new shower house we built earlier in the year. Now that we took down a bunch of trees that needed to be taken down, things are opened up a lot, which makes it just perfect for our weather station to monitor things. I like it a lot, as now I can keep an eye on it from my desk. That will be nice all winter as it will give me something different to look at. And I do enjoy watching and predicting the weather. I have been working with it for most of my life using different methods that my old Dad and Grandfather used, along with my Native friend’s Grey Wolf’s knowledge. For most parts it has been pretty accurate. Today I have my shop to clean up once again. It seems when ever I get to doing things at the end I have a mess to clean up. Not complaining mind ya. With that, I am off for some cranberry pancakes my lovely wife is making me with some Maple Syrup that my friend Mike gave us awhile back. He was the world’s champion a year or so ago. Nice fellow. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be catching fish are between 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM and then again from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. I give it a 3-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck! Oh, don’t forget your raincoat. It might come in handy.

Morning Chat, Sept. 3/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy, cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. But it isn’t as cool as it was yesterday morning. Waking up, the temperature was sitting at13.9 C | 57.02 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. Today will be much like yesterday and if lucky we could see some more sunshine later on. Yesterday turned out nice after a bit, let’s hope today is much the same. The long weekend isn’t looking too good weather wise with showers in the forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday and possibly a light shower on Tuesday. But you never know. I am hoping for sunshine. Highway 522 is very busy these days, with lots of trucks, campers, you name it going from east to west. I say that, as it is the only road in and out of our town. LOL Yesterday my lovely wife and I got the mowing all done up. Then the fellow that helped me take down some trees came by with his small excavator and took them away. He will make some lumber out of them, so they won’t go to waste. Nice fellow and knows his stuff. Today I am going to work on my old Rototiller as it needs a new drive belt. Not an easy job. I don’t know why they make it so hard to change the damn things. First you have to take a picture or draw a diagram, so you know how to put the new belt back on, with the belt having to be woven through numerous pulleys. So we will see how that works out. I am thinking it will take me most of the day. At least it did a few years ago when I changed it. With that, I am off for some French Toast that my wife is making me, and then I will get to work. Take care and stay safe.

Fishing Times: This morning my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with your line in the water will be between 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM and then a bit later on between 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM. I give it a 3-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Morning Chat Sept. 2/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy, cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 8.9 C | 48.02 F. We could see some sunshine, but for most parts we will be in the midst of a lot of clouds. The temperature will rise up some, as the day moves forward. Highway 522 was pretty busy yesterday, all chalked up to the long weekend that is coming up. Bug Report: The mosquitoes in certain places are still bad, but the others are dwindling. Which is good in one way but bad in other ways. Especially if you’re camping, as them blood seeking parasites find you within minutes. Not much you can do as this is truth be told their home. On another note, my lovely wife and I managed to get the mess cleaned up that was made from taking down trees yesterday. Opened things up around our home and things are looking darn nice. This morning we will get the mowing out of the way for the week, which will make it look even that much nicer. I have to tell you … my wife and I sure enjoy doing some front porch sittin’ taking in our property and what Mother Nature has to offer, Even more so now after all the outside work we both have done this year. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal, and maybe a piece of toast this morning for a change. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: This morning, my old weather stick is saying that the best times to have your line in the water will be between 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and then again from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for pulling in a few. Good Luck!!

Morning chat, Sept. 1/2021

Good Morning! It’s a great looking Sept 1st day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with the temperature sitting at 8.8 C | 47.84 F. Which, as you can see, that things have cooled down a lot. It will warm up as the day moves forward. But not as warm as it was. And along with that, I don’t suspect we will get any rain until Sunday. And then it won’t amount to much. Highway 522 has quieted down somewhat with the kids getting ready to go back to school. On another note, we have once again been busy taking down some more trees. We took down 15 earlier in the year, my wife and I by ourselves. But there were still four that were leaning the wrong way. So we hired a feller to take them down. I have to say he did a fantastic job. After he left, my wife and I got busy and cleaned things up, which was a job in itself. And we aren’t finished yet. Today we will finish it. But we did get the bulk of the work done yesterday. I do have a couple more small dead ones to come down, which, if I can drum up enough energy, will do later on in the day. First things first. After that, I think we should have all our projects we planned on doing this year completed and then some. It is hard to believe we did what we did. LOL, I don’t know where we got all our energy this year. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today, my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be between 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Then again from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM. I give it a 1-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. With the weather cooling down, it will slow things down some. But later on in the week it will get better. Good Luck!
